Texas Lantana

Lantana urticoides

Texas Lantana, Spanish Flag, Calico Bush

About This Plant

Sun; deciduous, with somewhat prickly stems, strongly pungent leaves, and a lanky habit. This is the lantana to use in Texas — most of the commercial varieties sold at big box stores are invasive. Texas lantana requires no supplemental irrigation. The fiery color is familiar to anyone who’s seen non-native commercial lantana, but this native’s flowers are smaller and less profuse.

Origins: Southern US and Texas; tropical Americas
