Texas Dandelion

Pyrrhopappus pauciflorus

Texas Dandelion, False Dandelion, Small Flower Desert Chicory

About This Plant

Full or partial sun, as long as soils are well-drained. Flowers open in morning and remain through midday. The feathery seed heads are unmistakably dandelions, but it lacks the prickly leaves of the non-native “sow thistle” dandelion. Dandelion is attractive to small pollinators and children, and it’s easy enough to find since it’s a common lawn weed.

Origins: Open grasslands under oak and or juniper canopy, uplands.

Maintenance

Mow down after seeds have fallen.

Dandelion brightens fields and lawns with its spring flowers (whether you want it or not.)
