About This Plant

Partial shade. An upright, unbranched biennial with fernlike leaves and tall spires of red tube flowers in early summer during its second year of growth (the first year, it forms a simple rosette). It tolerates dry gravelly sites and a variety of soil types.

Origins: Eastern & central U.S.

Maintenance

Flower stalks can be pruned after blooming to begin a new cycle.
