Pentas

Pentas lanceolata

Egyptian Starcluster, Star Flower

About This Plant

Sun or partial shade. A warm-season annual bedding plant growing up to 12 inches. Intensely colored star-shaped flower clusters appear in summer and autumn, in shades of pink, violet, red, and white. Pentas are heat-tolerant and can handle summer sun, but typically benefit from a bit of afternoon shade. They can reseed sporadically, but they’re considered an annual in San Antonio. Pentas attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Origins: Africa, Yemen
