Full or partial sun. A tall ornamental bunchgrass with wispy fan-shaped flowers that float above golden foliage late in the year. It normally goes dormant in winter, leaving dried seedheads which can attract some visual interest. Miscanthus sinensis has shown a weedy tendency to escape cultivation and invade natural areas; if you’re looking for a large bunchgrass, try some of the drought-tolerant options below.
Needs supplemental summer irrigation to look its best in exposed locations. Cut back to the ground in late winter.
Due to its invasive spread into natural areas it is not recommended here for use in south-central Texas.
