Skip the Sales Tax on Water-Saving Products

Before you fire up the pit for your Memorial Day weekend shindig, visit your local nursery for big savings on water-efficient and water-conserving products.

Whether you’re staying in or headed out for an adventure, saving water and energy will keep money from flowing out of your pockets.

Just in time for summer, the Energy Star sales tax holiday encourages for purchases on energy-efficient and water-saving appliances to boost your sustainable lifestyle.

You can buy, rent or lease the following Energy Star-labeled items tax free:

  • washerAir conditioners (with a sales price of $6,000 or less).
  • Refrigerators (with a sales price of $2,000 or less).
  • Ceiling fans.
  • Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs.
  • Clothes washers.
  • Dishwashers
  • Dehumidifiers

For your landscape, save the sales tax on these qualifying water-conserving products:

  • Soaker hose or drip-irrigation hose.
  • Moisture control for a sprinkler or irrigation system.
  • Soil, compost and mulch.
  • Rain barrels (or an alternative rain and moisture collection system).
  • Plants, trees and grasses.
