It pays to have your irrigation system checked

It’s time for a spring assessment of your irrigation components! Look for leaks, broken parts and other issues. Even if your system is no longer functional, it can still pay to get a checkup.

When you go to the doctor, your heart, brain and circulation are all evaluated to make sure everything is in good health. Think of your irrigation system in the same manner.

An irrigation system has a brain (the controller), heart (zone valves) and circulatory system (zone lines, main lines and sprinkler heads) that must be maintained for good system health. If the controller isn’t working or set properly, the system can incur extra wear and tear from overuse, potentially resulting in pressurized leaks caused by worn pipes and clogged heads or stuck valves.

If you have an irrigation system you can’t use because it no longer functions, or you no longer want the hassle of maintaining it, consider removing it completely — you just might get some money back!

In order to qualify for an irrigation system rebate, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Schedule a free consult by phone (210-704-7283) or email before you begin any irrigation system changes or retirements.
  2. Participate in your free consult and receive your personalized irrigation rebate offer good for 12 months. (Rebate offer based on number of zones and calculated water flow of system.)
  3. Go to the Online Irrigation Rebate Checklist to make sure you complete all requirements for what you intend to accomplish. (Each type of irrigation rebate has certain specifications.)
  4. Complete your work and call or email SAWS Conservation to set up a Final Inspection.
  5. Participate in your Final Inspection appointment and sign all paperwork.
  6. Receive your rebate approval email and wait 4-8 weeks to receive your rebate check in the mail!

Irrigation rebates are unique for each location and amounts may vary based on what you intend to do. Retire a non-functional irrigation system and get $450, or retire your active irrigation system and receive a potential rebate of $750 to more than $3,500, depending on system size and flow.

Rebates for making changes to individual zones such as capping, converting to drip irrigation or converting to pressure reducing heads average $200 to $350 per zone based on system flow, but range from $50 to more than $500 per zone. The only way to know specific rebate amounts is to schedule a free consult with SAWS.

Any of these things can be accomplished with a SAWS Irrigation Design Rebate and it all starts with a phone call to 210-704-7283 or email to set up a FREE SAWS Conservation Consult!
