Great Inspirations

What resource do you turn to when you need great gardening information and inspiration? Do you look for a good book, browse the Internet or visit with the experts in person?

This series will guide you to some of the most valuable sources of information available on gardening and landscaping in our area and climate.

If it’s books you seek, here are three sage selections:

  • “Home Landscaping Texas” by Greg Grant and Roger Holmes — Full-color illustrations and sample designs are superb for brainstorming and kick-starting your design ideas. And detailed plan descriptions will familiarize you with recommended plants for our area.
  • Native Texas Plants: Landscaping Region by Region” by Andy and Sally Wasowski — Full of vivid photos of Texas natives, this volume will help you create a beautiful, durable landscape using indigenous flora. Large, detailed sample landscape plans will entice you to go native!
  • Texas Trees: A Friendly Guide” by Paul W. Cox and Patty Leslie — Whether you want to identify existing trees or find the perfect leafy giant for your property, this tell-all about Texas trees is clear and easy to understand.

Not ready to commit to purchasing any of these books? Check them out at your local San Antonio Public Library! I think you will find the inspiration for your own landscaping project.
