Tackle food waste at home — maybe even start your own composting project(s)! Come learn about various types of composting and how each method can be utilized to tackle food waste at home and all the way up to restaurant and school levels. At the end of the workshop we will all take a quick self assessment of our own lunch plate … what can be composted? What can’t be composted? Based on the total number of participants, how many pounds of food can be diverted from the landfill? Participants will be invited to deposit their compostable left overs into our collection buckets and will be weighed as an example of how one meal’s food scraps can add up to a large quantity of waste diverted from the landfill. SA Composting Project, and anyone who composts, promotes healthy soil by amending poor soil with compost. Healthier soil holds water more efficiently, leading to healthier plants that help hold onto the soil and prevent precipitation runoff. Even the simple act of adding food waste to a hole in the ground helps add moisture back to the soil.
