“Bringing the Natural World Home Using Native Plants: A Personal Journey” Educator and naturalist Craig Hensley has long been an advocate for converting residential biological deserts to natural habitats. In 2018, he and his wife, Master Naturalist Terry Lashley, began a quest to convert most of their yard in Boerne to native plants with the idea that if you build it, they (the pollinators and others) will come. Through purchase and propagation of natives, a yard of non-natives has transitioned to a place, tiny though it is, where birds, bees, butterflies and so much more now visit throughout the year. Join Bexar Audubon Society to learn how they went about the process, see the results of this on-going effort, and become inspired to take steps in your own yard.
